Michael Jackson was a major American pop singer, composer, and performer. Best known as the “Precious Little Dancer” and the “Bad Kid” in his solo career, he was one of the biggest names in popular music of all time. The King of Pop reinvented pop culture and took it to a new level. Notable hits include “Beat It” and “Who’s That Girl?” In his first year as a solo artist, Michael Jackson had two hits single out on the pop charts. Those were “Hambo” and “That’s All Right.” Both songs stayed at the top of the chart for over a week, making Michael Jackson the first artist to have two songs reach the top of the chart in a single year. While those two singles are no longer with us, he managed to have a six-week stay at number one, a record that still stands to this day. The last single that Michael had a part in was the epic “A Day In The Life,” which was another huge hit single. Selling over three hundred copies in its first week, the single remains as a single unbroken, and unarguable hit. No other artist has reached that mark since. As an […] read more
“I wish I would have stuck with or learned how to play the guitar when I was a kid!” Does that sound like you? More an more men and women in their 40’s and 50’s are picking up a guitar and learning how to play guitar. Some are starting from scratch, others have put it down to pursure careers and families, and now have the itch to play again. Whether you’re 15 or 50, rank beginner or semi-skilled, you’ve probably looked around the internet to see what online guitar lessons are all about. Here are some things to look for. Does the product offer written, audio, and video demonstrations of the material? This is especially important if you’ve never played before. You won’t be able to tell if you’re doing it right from a book, and your ear isn’t developed enough to accurately hear if you’re playing the example correctly. It helps immensely to be able to see someone else do it. Is the product designed for a player at your level? Don’t buy a shredding lead guitar player package if you’ve never even strummed a chord. Learning how to play a guitar is like most things, you have to […] read more
Accounting or accountancy is a complex field that basically deals with the measurement, recording, interpretation, and reporting of financial and non-financial data about organizations including corporations and businesses. However, many people often confuse accounting and accountancy for the same thing due to the similarities in the word ‘account’. The major difference between the two is that accountants generally deal with financial statements to accountants usually deal with records. It is important for accountants to be highly qualified and knowledgeable about the various techniques and systems they use in preparing financial statements and reports. The origin of hip-hop can be traced back as far as the ancient tribes in Africa. Rap has been compared with the chants, drumbeats and foot-stomping African tribes performed before wars, the births of babies, and the deaths of kings and elders. Historians have reached further back than the accepted origins of hip-hop. It was born as we know it today in the Bronx, cradled and nurtured by the youth in the low-income areas of New York City. Fast-forward from the tribes of Africa to the ghettos of Kingston, Jamaica in the late sixties. The impoverished of Kingston gathered together in groups to form DJ conglomerates. They spun roots and culture records and communicated with the audience over the music. At the time, the DJ’s comments weren’t as important as the quality of the sound system and its ability to get the crowd moving. Kool Herc grew up in this community before he moved to the Bronx. During the late sixties, reggae wasn’t popular with New Yorkers. As a DJ, Kool Herc spun rhythm and blues records to please his party crowd. But, he had to add his personal touch. During the breaks, Herc began to speak to his audience […] read more
Today’s consumers know marketing when they see it-and often they choose to ignore it. A new book looks at ways to use the Web and emerging mass-marketing tools to reach those customers and hold their attention. Called “Waiting for Your Cat to Bark? Persuading Customers When They Ignore Marketing” (Nelson Business, $19.99), the book was written by Bryan and Jeffrey Eisenberg-the authors of The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times best-selling “Call To Action.” The authors reveal how to leverage the power of increasingly interconnected media channels by viewing marketing systems through the lens of what they call “Persuasion Architecture.” It highlights ways to: Accelerate the persuasive momentum that drives customers to take action. Plug holes in your marketing message. Map the sales process to the consumer’s buying process. Use the emerging marketplace to your advantage. Integrate and optimize cross-channel online and traditional marketing. Create predictive models of customer behavior. Marketers end up wasting lots of money–much of it squandered on optimizing Web sites for Google and other search engines. Instead of making sure that visitors who arrive via a search will land at the right place on their Web site, and have an effective experience from that […] read more
When you are getting started in the world of ecommerce, one of the first things you need to think about is getting traffic to your web page. Much like a physical storefront, a website is useless unless people are actually browsing through it, so it is important to think about how to get people to take a look at your webpage. Pay-per-click is one way to do this, but before you start investing the money into this unique form of advertising, there are a few things that you should know. PPC advertising can be a little confusing at first glance, so take a look below to clear up some of the more common misconceptions.
