How to move a piano

How do you move a piano? Very carefully. Okay, I’m being a little sarcastic, but moving a piano is a serious endeavor. I’m a big advocate of hiring a professional mover to move a piano. Pianos are heavy and it’s easy to damage a piano while moving it. I’m speaking from experience. I own a Kimball piano my parents bought brand new for me when I was a child. That piano was a big deal to me after having played on an old “clunker” of a piano for several years. I played that new piano every day. When I got married it was time to move the piano to my own home. My husband and his brothers moved it themselves. It wasn’t an easy job even with the moving dolly they used (pianos weigh several hundred pounds – grand pianos can weigh 1,500 pounds). The amateur move of my piano resulted in both of the piano legs being damaged (a common occurrence when people move a piano themselves) and some unplanned internal work (some pins needed repair and a string broke). I should have hired a piano mover. Then I wouldn’t have had those problems, but my husband and I […] read more

What is the future demand for podiatry?

Podiatry practitioners take care of an array of foot disorders and various types of individuals. There are numerous factors which can be impacting the demand for podiatrists and the majority of them are increasing or are expected to increase into the long run. As people grow older, many people have more foot disorders and for nearly all podiatry centers elderly people make up a large part of the patient volume. The older population is growing at quite a substantial rate, so this increase will most definately mean that there’ll be a greater need for podiatry on account of this increase in the aging human population. The sorts of issues that podiatry practitioners treat within the older age bracket are hallux valgus, claw toes and ingrown toenails and calluses on the feet. All forms of diabetes has a considerable effect on the feet. The neural problems suggests that any injury or problem with the foot will not be recognized, so can become very serious. Finding the best skin care product

There is really nothing like a best skin care product. There really can’t be anything like ‘The best skin care product’, because skin care products work differently for different people (based on the skin type to some extent). A product that is the ‘best skin care product’ for one person might end up being the worst for another person. So, a more logical question to ask would be ‘What is the best skin care product for my type of skin?’. However, this still is not completely logical. We tend to segregate people into 4 groups based on their skin types – i.e. dry skin, oily skin, normal skin and sensitive skin. However, this classification is just too broad to be used definitively in determining the best skin care product. We can say ‘best skin care product for a dry skin’ or ‘best skin care product for an oily skin’ are better statements than just ‘best skin care product’. But really, that is what it is – ‘better’; still not accurate. So, it really comes to rephrasing the question to – ‘What is the best skin care product for me’. Yes, this is exactly the question that you should be asking, […] read more

Does harsh discipline of children work?

ecent studies suggest that low-income parents tend to endorse much harsher discipline, partially because they hold stronger beliefs about the value of spanking and experience higher levels of stress. However, parents who work in high-stress jobs or are stay-at-home parents who are feeling frustrated or isolated are also at risk. It’s imperative that parents recognize their tendency to punish a child too severely and take the needed steps to make sure the punishment is appropriate for their child’s age, temperament and maturity level. The study’s finding showed that parents from lower income levels or work high pressure jobs are more stressed, and they react more emotionally to their child’s behavior, and thus use harsher discipline. A parent in this situation may benefit from outside assistance and learning about alternative disciplinary strategies that are more appropriate and less harsh. It’s also important for a parent to realize that children thrive on praise. Parents in such a situation may always jump to discipline but fail to praise their child for their good deeds, behaviors and traits. Children instinctively want to please their parents and make them proud. By encouraging positive behavior, the parent will most likely discourage the behavior that has driven them in […] read more

The Longevity of Aerosmith

For over three decades, Aerosmith have been one of rock’s most revered and popular bands, crafting classic songs full of raw guitar runs and intensely energetic vocals. The band first reached fame in the 1970’s with a string of hits including “Dream On,” “Sweet Emotion” and “Walk This Way.” During this period, Aerosmith’s music defied easy categorization, falling somewhere between hard rock/blues and early punk, with occasional power ballads here and there. The band enjoyed major popularity throughout the 1970’s, but a split from 1979-84, and the serious substance abuse and drug addictions that contributed to their decline, would nearly relegate them to the annals of history. However, in 1984, Aerosmith was born again. They went on to enjoy resurgence in popularity that has made them one of the top-selling and most popular rock bands in the world today. Throughout their rough and rocky history, Aerosmith defied failure and even defied mediocrity in a fast-paced rock-and-roll world abundant in tragedy and also-rans. Aerosmith signed with Columbia in 1972 and debuted their first album simply titled Aerosmith, which included a hit single, “Dream On”. After constant touring, the band released Get Your Wings in 1974, which did quite well on the […] read more

Is The Chevron Osteotomy Useful?

A Chevron osteotomy is a commonly carried out surgery to take care of bunions on the feet. The bunion is the swelling and a misalignment with the big toe that causes the big toe to turn towards the lesser toes. This often causes a lump on the base of the big toe or hallux that can turn out to be sore. There are many different surgical procedures which they can use to deal with a bunion. Each of the procedures carries a variety of indications as to exactly who it’s the most appropriate for. Having a Chevron osteotomy, the feet and ankle orthopaedic as well as podiatric physician cuts a “V” near the end of the long bone behind the big toe (the metatarsal) and after that moves that cut portion of the metatarsal to correct the great toe. Caring for Oily Skin

To start the discussion on oily skin care, it’s imperative to first understand the cause behind oily skin. Put simply, oily skin is a result of excessive production of sebum (an oily substance that is naturally produced by skin). As is known to everyone, excess of everything is bad; so excessive sebum is bad too. It leads to clogging of skin pores, resulting in accumulation of dead cells and hence formation of pimples/acne. Moreover, oily skin spoils your looks too. So, ‘oily skin care’ is as important as the ‘skin care’ for other types of skin. The basic aim of ‘oily skin care’ is the removal of excessive sebum or oil from the skin. However, oily skin care procedures should not lead to complete removal of oil. ‘Oily skin care’ starts with the use of a cleanser. However, not all cleansers will work. You need a cleanser which contains salicylic acid i.e. a beta-hydroxy acid that retards the rate of sebum production. Cleansing should be done twice a day (and even more in hot and humid conditions). Most of the oily skin care products are oil-free; however, it is always good to check the ingredients of the product, before you […] read more
